The 2012 Annual Dinner is just around the corner, and we wouldn’t miss it! What a great opportunity to network with the entire Siouxland business community, hear an update on all that the Chamber has done to advance business in our region, and hear a world class speaker right in our backyard. If you have not purchased a ticket or reserved a table yet, I highly encourage you to do it today. This is one event you do not want to miss!

This September, in celebration of National Preparedness Month the Red Cross encourages all Americans to assess and prepare for their local disaster risks. It’s time to make or update your family disaster plan and your Red Cross is ready to help. “Just like no coach would bring a team onto a field without a game plan, every family needs a game plan for emergencies. When disaster strikes, it’s too late.” Community Preparedness and Resilience is a top priority for the Red Cross during National Preparedness Month and they need your help.
You can help support National Preparedness Month in the following ways:
- Support Mobile Apps Downloads
a. Download the First Aid, Hurricane and Shelter Apps to your Droid or Apple device.
b. Encourage family, friends, co-workers to download the Apps
c. Show the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_mwdKxJ0Ikk
to groups or during presentations to encourage people to download one or all of the apps.
- Spread the word about the Red Cross giving away an iPad
a. Encourage families to register on-line for an iPad, all they need to do is create a family disaster plan during the month of September and register at https://www.signup4.net/Public/ap.aspx?EID=NATI436E
b. Post on your social media (personal and corporate) the link and information on how families can be better prepared for a disaster or emergency and enter to win the iPad.

The Siouxland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® will welcome the organization’s founder Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker to Siouxland on Friday September 7th. The Siouxland Affiliate was selected as the winner of a contest held by the breast cancer organization’s headquarters to promote Promise Me, the recently published memoir of the organization’s founder Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker. Promise Me, a New York Times best-seller, chronicles Brinker’s transformation from bereaved sister to the undisputed leader of the global movement to end breast cancer. It shows the very personal side of Susan G. Komen For The Cure®.
The Komen Siouxland Affiliate developed an integrated and creative campaign that started with the local book store, Book People, agreeing to promote Promise Me and then expanded to include the entire Marketplace Shopping Centre turning the promotion into a celebration of what the breast cancer movement has accomplished and what will be done in the future.
